CPTM Overview

Vision

The Centre's vision is to be an international leader in monitoring, diagnostics and life management research for electrical power equipment.

Background

Globally, there is negligible research infrastructure linking the transformer manufacturers and end users. The Centre is the first of its kind. Traditionally, manufacturers and utilities have had their own separate R&D groups, which do not openly share research results due to competition. Manufacturers of large power transformers have their own research centres, while electricity utilities through organisations such as EPRI (Electrical Power Research Institute, Inc.), USA conduct contract research for member-utilities. The Centre facilitates applied research for oil-immersed transformers, as well as testing and assessing new monitoring and diagnostic technologies, performed independently for the benefit of both manufacturers and users.

The Centre has been established under the Science, Technology and Innovation (STI) Initiative of the Government of Victoria.

The Centre for Power Transformer Monitoring, Diagnostics and Life Management is funded by the Victorian Government and a consortium that currently consists of the following partners:

Unincorporated Joint Venture (UJV)
